Riverside Medical Group chooses athenaCollector, expects to streamline collections as it integrates into existing IT infrastructure

Riverside Medical Group (RMG), a division of Riverside Health System and one of the most diverse multi-specialty group practices of Virginia, has selected athenaCollector, a billing and practice management tool from athenahealth. The implementation is expected to streamline collections as it integrates into existing IT infrastructure throughout the healthcare system.

An early adopter of electronic health records, Riverside sought meaningful technology to improve workflow processes. “Partnering with athenahealth is a strategic investment that will enable us to process and collect on claims in the most efficient way,” said Bill Austin, CFO of Riverside Health System. “The value of a cloud-based system goes beyond implementation ease; with athenaCollector, we’ll benefit from network knowledge, knowing that learning and insight gleaned from other practices that use athenaCollector will come our way and inform our workflow.”

By leveraging athenahealth’s solution, RMG expects to get its medical billing claims paid faster and easier. athenaCollector processes more than $11 billion per year and averages 29 percent reduced days in receivables and 8 percent increase in collections, according to the solutions provider. “We’re delighted that an organization with a similarly pioneering spirit has chosen athenahealth to take on its billing and claims processing workflow,” said Jonathon Bush, chairman and CEO of athenahealth. “RMG has always been on the forefront of medical care, and our cloud-based services will ensure that its focus stays where it should, on patient care.”

The leading healthcare provider in a 13-county area of eastern Virginia, Riverside Health System comprises five hospitals with Joint Commission accreditation. Its flagship location with 450 beds is Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, VA. The non-profit integrated network includes multiple specialty hospitals, surgery centers, cancer centers, home care and hospice, wellness centers, and outlets for innovative senior citizen services. Its physician group, Riverside Medical Group, comprises over 300 medical doctors who provide care for 485,000 patients at 117 locations. Named to Hospital & Health Network’s Most Wired Survey for seven years, the health system is affiliated with several medical colleges and universities within the area and is the only health system member of the Medical Society of Virginia (MSV) to hold a voting seat in the MSV House of Delegates.
